Bubbles forming under the paint film, often months after painting.
Why it happens
- Moisture trying to escape the wall is trapped by the paint
- Painting over a damp surface
- Poor surface preparation
How to fix it
- Scrape off the blistered paint and let the wall dry fully
- Repaint with a quality acrylic emulsion
- If the wall is damp-prone, waterproof it first
Paint lifting or flaking off the wall in patches.
Why it happens
- Weak adhesion between paint and surface
- Low-quality paint or over-thinning with water
- No primer / sealer applied
- Poor surface prep
How to fix it
- Scrape back to a sound surface (wire brush / scraper / sandpaper)
- Clean and dry the wall, then apply a sealer/primer
- Topcoat with a quality emulsion — don’t over-dilute
Fine cracks or a crazed pattern across the paint surface.
Why it happens
- Surface movement or structural hairline cracks
- Coats applied too thick or dried too fast
- Poor-quality or aged coating
How to fix it
- Open and fill cracks; for moving/structural cracks use a flexible system
- Prime, then repaint with a flexible quality coating
- For active structural cracks, apply a waterproofing membrane
Black, green or grey patches in humid or shaded areas.
Why it happens
- High humidity and poor ventilation
- Persistent damp in the wall
- Non-fungal-resistant coating
How to fix it
- Wash off the growth and treat the area
- Fix the source of damp (waterproof if needed)
- Repaint with an anti-fungal, anti-bacterial paint
Exterior colour dulling, or a chalky powder on the surface.
Why it happens
- Prolonged UV / sun exposure
- Lower-grade exterior paint
- End of the coating’s service life
How to fix it
- Wipe down the chalky surface
- Recoat with a UV-resistant 100% acrylic exterior paint
- Choose lasting, fade-resistant colours
White, powdery salt deposits bleeding through the paint.
Why it happens
- Moisture carrying mineral salts out of masonry
- New/green concrete not fully cured
- Water ingress behind the wall
How to fix it
- Remove deposits and let the surface fully dry/cure
- Address the moisture source with waterproofing/sealer
- Repaint once the surface is stable and dry
Water stains, drips or damp patches on ceilings and flat roofs.
Why it happens
- Failed or missing waterproofing membrane
- Cracks or ponding on a flat roof
- Aged sealant at joints
How to fix it
- Inspect and prep the roof/deck surface
- Apply the right membrane system (torch-on or liquid)
- Maintain falls so water drains away
Persistent damp patches, musty smell, or peeling at the base of walls.
Why it happens
- Water ingress through porous concrete
- Rising damp from the ground
- Failed external waterproofing
How to fix it
- Identify and treat the moisture path
- Apply a penetrating sealer / flexible slurry
- Re-finish once the wall is dry
Water actively seeping or running through a crack or joint.
Why it happens
- Live water pressure through a crack or hole
- Construction joints and pipe penetrations
- Honeycomb in concrete
How to fix it
- Use a rapid-set hydraulic plug to stop the flow in seconds
- Then apply a waterproofing system over the area
- Seal joints and penetrations properly
Dusting, staining or worn industrial / warehouse floors.
Why it happens
- Untreated, porous concrete
- Heavy traffic and chemical exposure
- No protective coating
How to fix it
- Grind and prepare the concrete
- Apply a high-build epoxy or PU floor system
- Choose chemical/abrasion-resistant grades for heavy duty
Dull colour, poor grip or a worn acrylic court surface.
Why it happens
- UV fading of the acrylic surface
- Worn texture reducing grip
- Cracks in the base
How to fix it
- Clean and repair the base
- Resurface with an acrylic court system
- Re-line and apply true-colour topcoats
